Abstract:
A mobile ad hoc network represents a system of wireless mobile nodes that can freely and dynamically self-organize into arbitrary and temporary network topologies, allowing people and devices to seamlessly communicate without any preexisting communication architecture. Some or possibly all of these nodes are mobile. There are several factor that affects the routing of packets in MANET. Performance of routing protocol is affected by mobility rate as well as mobility model used in the simulation. Mobility Models plays a very important role in determining the protocol performance, and used commonly are either non-realistic or Semi-realistic. In the performance evaluation of a protocol for warless ad hoc network, the protocol should be tested under realistic conditions including, data traffic models, and realistic movements of the mobile nodes. In this paper, we presents several mobility models that represent mobile nodes whose movements are independent of each other (i.e., Random Way Point Mobility Model), and other mobility models that represent mobile nodes whose movements are dependent on each other (i.e., Random Group Mobility Models). In this paper, we present a brief overview on routing protocols from reactive, proactive and hybrid categories to make comparison. Thus, it is essential to study and analyze various mobility models and their effect on routing performance over wireless ad hoc network.
